As a Portfolio Careerist, Devika Lynn Carr, Esq. focuses on elevating exceptional individuals through law, higher education, art, and mindfulness.
She became a member of the Florida Bar and a licensed attorney in September 2014, serving as an Assistant Public Defender in Broward County advocating for individuals facing criminal charges on specialty dockets including misdemeanors, felonies, domestic violence, mental health, and veterans of the United States military.
Two years later, she started D CARR LAW as an entrepreneurial endeavor that afforded her freedom to serve various communities while having autonomy to be fully present for her children.
In 2022, she relocated to Ohio to serve first- and second-year Law & Society Scholars as their mentor and Program Manager at The Ohio State University, nurturing their commitment to advocacy. By challenging their awareness and understanding about what it means to serve self and others through advocacy interests, she explores how circumstances and experiences impact how we pursue fulfilling lives. She is a member of the Ohio Bar and licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio.
Disability is part of Devika’s story and the story of those she loves and cares about. Everything she has designed through D CARR LAW is a reflection of challenges and opportunities she has experienced as an advocate for self and others who are both disabled and non-disabled members of her communities.
She has successfully obtained trademarks for enterprises that broaden the scope of her advocacy interests, guarantee intellectual property is part of her family’s legacy, and elevates individuals with disabilities to thrive by designing financial and career opportunities that suit their special interests, talents, and needs.
Currently, she provides virtual pro bono service for the transient and homeless community members in the South Florida municipalities of Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, and Pompano Beach. She also represents exceptional children with specialized needs in education to ensure they receive appropriate education tailored to their individual needs despite their disabilities, guaranteeing access to the inclusive educational experience they deserve.
